Evendale Recreation Commission
April 20, 2006
Called to Order at 7:35am
Roll Call: Doug Lohmeier, Mary Lou Isaac, David Nichols, Craig Reeder, Michele Gottschlich. Absent: Wayne Mosley, Gus Janszen, and Pam Meyer.
Recognition of Visitors: Kathy McGrath and Rick Haslet, Tri-Health
Motion to approve minutes made by Doug Lohmeier; seconded by Michele Gottschlich. Motion passed.
New Business-
Tri-Health Report and Quarterly Update
· Biggest year yet, averaging 8 visits per active member a month; other Tri-Health locations are averaging 6.5 visits per active member a month.
· Healthy Back class had seven participants; Kathy would like to try this class again.
· Biggest Loser incentive program had 60 participants divided into four teams. The participants lost a total of 298 lbs. Many are continuing with the workouts.
· Diabetes Class had low registrations. Kathy wants to try this one again.
· RecFest had 17 kids participating; up from 14 last year.
· Fitness Surveys are out; waiting for them to come back.
· Massages are available any day of the week now; people just need to give the fitness center a minimum of 48 hours notice.
· Summer Fitness Program will consist of 2 five week sessions. This would allow people to exercise one session and vacation during the other. The water aerobics class will be eight weeks in length.
· Ballet and Yoga For Tots have been well attended.
· Yogalates (combination of Yoga and Pilates) is growing in numbers attended each week.
· Fitness Program pricing seems to have found its balance for those taking a single class and those taking multiple fitness classes.
· Resident Leland Ramey complimented Brent Fields, who developed a fitness program that has helped Leland loose several pounds. Resident Tom Hauser complimented Kathy McGrath with her help with his recent hip replacement rehabilitation therapy. Tom told David Nichols that the facility’s proximity and staffing were great benefits to him.
· The Evendale 100 starts in May. Healthy Ohioans walk also happens in May. Fall Prevention Class with the Hamilton County Health Dept. will happen in June.
Policy Sub-committee
· Member ID card policy had some sections struck from the policy.
· Facility Policy section – a few fees were combined; spa and sauna age limit minimum was changed to 18 years; supplemental rules had some verbiage missing, and it will be added.
· Ladies Tennis League Level 3 rating is 2.5 – 3.0.
· Adult Sports – a business team member will be required to submit a letter on company letterhead, and signed by the company’s President or HR Manager to be eligible to play in our leagues.
· Crew 57 will now allow an eligible family resident or non-resident to attend their events after the deadline date. EFR or non-resident may be invited by a resident on a one-to-one ratio.
Motion to adopt the Policy subcommittee’s recommendations made by Doug Lohmeier; seconded by Craig Reeder. Motion passed.
Old Business:
Tri-Health Report – no discussion
Trails Update
· Trail development will start at the Gorman Heritage Farm
· Stay in contact with Public Works about the trail development schedule. Possibly mobilize residents to help develop other sections of the trail system throughout the village.
Director’s Report
Copy of members and their contact information was distributed.
Phi Lambda Pi Music Fest Proposal
· Members in the different Phi grades have formed and bands; and they would like to have a day of concerts at the Pavilion.
· This would be a fundraiser for the teen group.
· A letter would be sent to the residents, east of the village grounds, advising them of the event.
· David will also check with the solicitor’s office regarding liability.
· Motion to approve the proposal made by Craig Reeder; seconded by Michele Gottschlich. Motion passed.
Phi Lambda Pi Report
· 47th Annual Awards Night was held. 110 people attended, 35 kids attended the overnight.
· New governing committee elected. They have held their first meeting.
· Service projects have included the Evendale Elementary School FunFest, and the Ice Cream Social here at the Recreation Center.
Open Discussion
· How was the 21 & Over Adult Egg Hunt? According to Doug, “it was a blast!”
· Evendale Fine Arts Exhibit returns May 5th.
· Dave Bergan, swim team coach, will attend the June commission meeting. Cary Belyea, SwimSafe Pool Management, will also attend the June meeting.
